marco rubio and paul ryan both spoke at this dinner and they were -- these were speeches where they're trying to define themselves as who they are. both probably going to run in 2016. how would a rubio/ryan stack up against a hillary clinton? in a sense it sort of feels like 2008 reversed, right, except for experience would come on the democratic side with hillary and the youth and this sort of idealism might perhaps come from a rubio or ryan on the republican side? >> well, if i look at that poll you were referring to, hillary clinton is the overwhelming favorite among young people, especially young women. young people and young women, clearly they're going to help determine future elections. look, i think paul ryan and marco rubio, are trying to rebrand themselves and recast the republican party as a party of diversity and, perhaps, big ideas and a larger goalpost. i want to also say this because i have to say this as vice chair of the party. as you know, the democratic party has a large and broad base, including vice president biden, who's done terrific job in his capacity as second

rubios who put a nicer package on it, but let ted cruz, even marco rubio, rand paul talk for ten minutes. they will start to sound a lot like some of these people -- the crazies, they have the same beliefs. >> let's for a minute remember, ben, ted cruz is going to be involved with the nrcs. >> yes. >> charged with overseeing the republicans in their bid to retake the senate in any number of years and as such, is going to have to play ball on establishment politics, right? >> yeah. >> yes! >> yes come. >> tvoice wilderness defending the alien senate. >> hang on to my peeps over here come on. you're right about pa. part of it. you can say and put rand paul and cruz in this right wing ideological death trap, but the fact of the matter is, there's a whole new dynamic that's going to come, that's going to unfold in the senate, largely around the point that was just made. when you've got cruz working with the nrc he's got to keep in mind the goal is to elect senators. you cannot come in with this doctrinaire point of view and applying that across the country. not every senate race is the same.

marco rubio is honored tonight. paul ryan was the honoree last year. yes, andrea. these are two guys without question are going to be in that 2016 presidential race barring some sort of unforeseen circumstance. they're both positioning themselves to lead the party. i'm interested to see what they talk about, because i think both of them -- paul ryan is talking about poverty. marco rubio is talking about education so not two typical what we would traditional republican issues, taxes and those sorts of things. this is an attempt by both men, i think, and a chance for both men to expand on what it means to be a member of the republican party and to try to broaden an appeal we saw in the 2012 election is just not broad enough particularly among hispanics. they are problems with women and young people. rubio is 41 and ryan is 42 years old who are leading a youth movement that the party hopes will change that appeal, correct their demographic problems and it starts even though the election is a month old, it starts today. >> i would put bobby jindal in that group as well
